Art... AS Fine Art: Unit One
I started AS Art and Design: Fine Art (the first year of the AQA A-level) in 2013. Unit one can include a lot of different things, but must include at least one themed project ending with a final piece. At my college, all the work for unit one was themed around the human condition. I produced two sketchbooks, a few separate pieces and a final piece of a human hand/Neanderthal skull.
The marking scheme covers four main areas: developing ideas, experimentation, recording and presenting a response. It's usual for students to look at the work of other artists and movements, do media experiments, and generally develop ideas.
This wasn't a theme I would have chosen, but it was great for improving my skills at drawing humans. And I do like drawing skulls, so I found a way to bring it around to something I enjoyed.
Final grade for unit one: A
(I'm still putting up the sketchbooks, so some of the forward / backward links won't work as not all the pages are there. Also to come is a photograph of the skull model and two larger ink/paper sketches.)
